States, FCT got N2.9trn special FAAC allocations for security, infrastructure in two years

NIGERIA’S 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) received a combined N2.9 trillion in special allocations for infrastructure and security between January 2024 and May 2026, according to TheCable.

The details were contained in documents presented at the June 2026 meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), under a funding category described as ‘intervention to states infrastructure and security.’

According to the records, these allocations are typically deducted from gross revenue before the remaining funds are shared among federal, state and local governments through the federation account.

The report, under a section titled ‘Ledger of Savings on Intervention to States Infrastructure and Security,’ showed that N3.17 trillion was earmarked for the programme during the period, with N2.9 trillion already released to beneficiaries.

The document indicated that the intervention funds were sourced from non-oil revenue.

A review of the monthly disbursements showed that states and the FCT received N259 billion in April 2024 and N222 billion in May of the same year. Allocations later rose to N370 billion in September 2024 before declining to N333 billion in December.

In 2025, the releases stood at N216 billion in February and N200 billion in April. States and the FCT subsequently received N250 billion each in May, June and July, while the figure dropped to N100 billion in August.

For March 2026, the intervention funds were released in two tranches. States received N198 billion, while the FCT got N5.5 billion, bringing the month’s total disbursement to N203.5 billion.

The latest FAAC records also showed that about N252 billion was distributed to states and the FCT in May 2026.

Despite the scale of the intervention programme, the arrangement remains largely unknown to the public, as state governments and the FCT rarely disclose details of the allocations or provide public accounts of how the funds are utilised.
