Atiku vows to back any ADC presidential candidate, signals support for youth emergence
A LEADING figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Atiku Abubakar, has declared his readiness to support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential flagbearer ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interview with DW Hausa, Atiku emphasised that his loyalty lies with the party’s decision, stressing that even if a young aspirant clinches the ticket, he would fully back the individual.
He also brushed aside concerns that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could work against the ADC, noting that the party continues to gain traction and attract new members across the country.
According to him, the number of presidential hopefuls within the ADC remains small compared to previous contests, adding that internal competition should not threaten unity. He recalled that in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), more than 10 aspirants once vied for the same ticket.

Atiku further highlighted a growing youth presence within the party, noting that many candidates contesting positions from local government councils to the National Assembly are young Nigerians. He reiterated that the ADC has consistently positioned itself as a platform for youths and women.
When asked directly if he would support a young presidential candidate, Atiku responded in the affirmative, saying there was no reason not to.
Reflecting on his personal journey, he added that he has achieved much in life and is now more concerned about the future of younger generations, including his children and grandchildren.
