After Rivers political outings, Wike returns to approve promotion of over 2,000 FCTA, FCDA staff

MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has returned from his political outings in Rivers State to Abuja. One of his first set of activities is to approve the immediate promotion of more than 2,000 staff members serving under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

The approval came after the successful conclusion of promotion examinations conducted between Tuesday, November 25, and Saturday, November 29, 2025.

Speaking on the development on Wednesday, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Mr Emeka Ezeh, said officers who benefitted from the exercise were drawn from 165 different cadres within the service.

According to him, the promotions reflected the minister’s commitment to improving staff welfare and supporting structured career progression, noting that promotion examinations would continue to be held in line with established schedules.

Ezeh urged civil servants to begin early preparation for the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises, stressing that dedication and performance would remain key considerations in the process.

He also reiterated the commission’s resolve to sustain the use of Computer-Based Tests (CBT) for promotion examinations, adding that the system enhanced transparency and aligned with the digital promotion framework recently approved by the FCT minister.

Wike in Rivers State

Mr Wike spent 17 days in Rivers State moving from Obio/Akpor to Opobo/ Nkoro Local Government Area. Wike, a two-time governor of the state, galvanised support for President Bola Tinubu’s second term re-election in 2027. He also seized the moments to tell Rivers’ supporters that he was no longer backing Governor Sim Fubara.

At Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr Wike asked National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, to mind his business and stop commenting on matters relating to Rivers State.

Mr Wike further asked the APC scribe to find out what happened to people from outside the state who commented on matters relating to Rivers State, noting that “Rivers is a no-go area.”

At Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr Wike said Gov Fubara’s second term would bury him politically. “We have made a decision as far as Tinubu is concerned. The other one (Fubara’s re-election) — no way. Because if we make another mistake, then we will go and bury ourselves politically. I will not allow myself to be buried. I will not allow that mistake again,” he said.

“So everybody should know we have made a decision.”

“We will not make the same mistake again at the state level in 2027, but we will talk about it later when the time comes,” he said, adding that leaders should prioritise the will of the people over personal interests.

At a separate stakeholders’ meeting on at Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Mr Wike dismissed suggestions that Gov Fubara’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would guarantee him re-election.

“If you played well with the first one and succeeded, do you think you can succeed with the second one? There cannot be two markets in one day,” Wike said, in a veiled reference to previous peace agreements.

“So, whoever is assuring you that everything will be fine once you sign on your mandate, you are mistaken,” he said.

“All of us have decided to work for Bola Ahmed Tinubu. There is no discussion about that.”
Wike said efforts were underway to avoid repeating past errors.”

While Wike was in Rivers State, the Rivers State House of Assemly intensified plans to impeach Governor Fubara. The move was announced during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mr Martins Amaewhule, and broadcast live on Channels Television.

During the session, the Majority Leader, Mr Major Jack, formally presented the notice of allegations and claims of gross misconduct against the governor.

A total of 26 lawmakers endorsed the notice, which they said was issued in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaking during the sitting, Mr Amaewhule stated that the notice of allegations would be served on Governor Fubara within the next 7 days. At the moment, several internal and external forces have waded into the matter, which explains why the state legislators are still keeping mute.
