Economy Post reappoints award-winning journalist Odinaka Anudu as Managing Editor

Economy Post, a leading business and financial news platform in Nigeria, has reappointed a multiple award-winning investigative and data journalist, Mr Odinaka Anudu, as its Managing Editor.

Anudu, who has amassed nearly 20 journalism awards, will now lead a team of talented and enterprising journalists with a vision to catapult the platform into becoming Africa’s biggest investigative business and financial news platform.

Anudu, who was the Managing Editor of the platform until April 2024, worked as as Managing Editor of Nairametrics and Deputy Editor of BusinessDay when he exited in 2024. At BusinessDay, he doubled as Deputy Editor and News Editor, supervising nearly 90 reporters across the country.

Anudu, who has worked in 9 newsrooms, has several years of experience in journalism. He has been a South-East Bureau Chief at Nigerian OrientNews and was formerly Assistant Editor at BusinessDay for many years.

He was News Editor and later Deputy Editor at the International Centre for Investigative Reporting. He was also Deputy Business Editor at The Punch.

He was Editor of Dataphyte in Abuja, the nation’s capital. Economy Post, which is currently the only investigative business and financial news platform in Nigeria, is currently being managed by a team of investigative journalists.

He also contributes to The Africa Report  as well as articles to international platforms. Anudu is the only Nigerian journalist who participated in a global investigation funded by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). Economy Post is the only platform selected for the investigation in Nigeria.

Anudu got his master’s degree in Finance and Investment Management at the University of Salford, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. He is also an economist. He has his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria, and was also trained by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) on trade negotiation, having been nominated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Anudu investigated China’s influence on South Africa’s automobile industry in Gauteng, which found that China slyly makes it hard for South Africans to learn vehicle production by deliberately preventing its nationals from participating in some production lines. His award-winning stories include Money for the boys: How ‘agberos’ pocket billions of Lagos transport revenue, Lagos micro businesses in the grip of area boys, Dollar in the mills, Ongoing projects in South East: Truth vs Lies, How non-state actors pocket Rivers State’s N55bn transport revenue, among tens of others.

He used data to estimate the market sizes of Lagos agberos, Aba shoe industry and several others. His story on Lagos agberos was so significant that he exposed the fact that no one – including the finance commissioner – knew where the Lagos transport tax was warehoused. It was neither in state government coffers nor  in the state’s financial statements at least since 2015.

After his story, the Lagos State government reduced commercial bus drivers’ transport tax from N3,000 to N800, and subsequently pledged to reform the transport sector.

An author of 2 books, Anudu was Secretary of the National Drug Abuse Association, supporting the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in its war against drug abuse.

“I am happy to be back to Economy Post,” he said. “We will continue doing what we have been doing. This time, we will do many more investigations that hold corporate and government power to account. Our vision is to make Economy Post number 1 in Africa and we are getting closer to that each day,” Mr Anudu noted.

“It is not an easy ride. We will face legal and corporate pressure. We will face government and political pressure. But we will be undaunted by these roadblocks and will serve our readers with delicious stories, which they can’t find in other platforms,” Mr Anudu pledged.

“Fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride,” he added.
