Aisha Yesufu condemns cash sharing at Nasarawa APC event

HUMAN rights activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised the sharing of cash to supporters at an empowerment programme involving Maryam Wadada, wife of Nasarawa State APC governorship candidate, Senator Ahmed Wadada.

A video circulating online shows Maryam Wadada distributing cash to people at the event.

Reacting in a post on her official X account, Yesufu questioned why recipients would attach greater value to the money handed out at the programme than to financial support for essential needs.

She noted that many Nigerians spend substantial amounts on school fees, rent and hospital bills, yet may place greater importance on relatively smaller cash gifts received at political events.

She argued that Nigerians’ attitude towards such handouts allows political actors to carry out what she described as questionable governance practices without facing sufficient public pressure.

According to Yesufu, Nigerians are indirectly subsidising the political system by bearing the cost of essential services themselves.

“Do you know that you are the ones subsidizing governance for APC to do this freely without the people going after them?” she said.
