Tinubu: Nigeria’s economic reforms putting growth on firmer footing
PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has said that Nigeria’s latest economic growth figures show that reforms introduced by his administration are beginning to deliver stronger and more sustainable growth.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported on Monday that Nigeria’s real gross domestic product grew by 4.43 percent year-on-year in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026, up from 4.23 percent in the same period of 2025.
Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, said the latest performance indicated that the economy had moved towards greater stability after a period of difficult policy adjustments.
The president said the government’s priority would now be to ensure that improved macroeconomic performance translates into better living conditions for Nigerians.

He said the administration’s reforms had contributed to stronger foreign reserves, improved sovereign credit ratings, higher oil output and renewed investor confidence.
Tinubu also pointed to trade surpluses and increased infrastructure spending as evidence of progress, citing ongoing investments in roads, railways and other public infrastructure.
According to the president, the government would focus more on easing the impact of economic pressures on households as growth becomes more firmly established.
He said measures being considered include reducing transportation costs, increasing food production and expanding relief programmes for vulnerable Nigerians.
“We are fully committed to translating consistent, stronger economic performance into better microeconomic outcomes for our citizens,” Tinubu said.
