Nigerian Breweries partners Indorama, Genesis on PET recycling plant in Ogun

NIGERIAN Breweries Plc has announced a strategic partnership to establish a food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) production facility in Ogun State as part of efforts to support recycling and secure sustainable packaging materials.

In a notice to Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and the investing public on Thursday, the company said it would participate in the project as a minority investor with a 29 percent equity stake and would not be involved in the control or management of the business.

The recycling facility will be developed through Indorama Ventures Recycling Solutions Limited, a special purpose vehicle created to develop, own, and operate the plant.

The project is being undertaken in collaboration with Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, the major partner, and Genesis Energy Group, which will participate as a minority partner.

Indorama Ventures is described as a global sustainable chemical company and the world’s leading recycler of PET used in beverage packaging. Genesis Energy Group is expected to contribute expertise in sustainable infrastructure and energy.

According to Nigerian Breweries, the partnership supports its sustainability strategy and is expected to strengthen the development of Nigeria’s recycling industry while ensuring a reliable future supply of rPET for its operations.

The company also noted that the investment aligns with the roadmap on mandatory rPET usage under Nigeria’s National Policy on Plastic Waste Management.

However, the proposed transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals, technical validation, and operational implementation before the project can proceed.
