FG clamps down on three Ogun factories over safety infractions

THE Federal Government has sealed off three industrial facilities in Ogijo, Ogun State, citing serious breaches of occupational safety regulations.

The enforcement move followed an inspection led by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Ms Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, who directed that the affected factories cease operations immediately.

Those impacted include African Refractory and Allied Products, African Non-Ferrous Industries Ltd., and Metalworld Recycling Ltd.

According to the minister, the companies had failed to act on earlier compliance warnings issued in December 2025, showing a pattern of disregard for established safety protocols.

Findings from the inspection revealed that workers had not been properly trained on workplace hazards, while basic protective gear required for safe operations was also not made available.

Onyejeocha said the firms ignored regulatory directives and took no visible steps to correct the identified deficiencies.

She disclosed that the unsafe conditions had already resulted in loss of lives, with some cases allegedly not documented through official channels.

The minister maintained that such negligence would attract strict penalties, stressing that the government remains committed to enforcing labour and safety laws to protect workers.

She further warned industrial operators to strictly adhere to safety requirements, including obtaining necessary approvals before making operational changes.

Meanwhile, Vedanta Metal Industries Ltd., also situated in the area, was allowed to continue operations but was instructed to urgently address lapses in workplace cleanliness and organisation.

The latest action comes months after the Ogun State government shut down 7 lead-acid recycling plants in the same corridor over fears of environmental and health risks linked to lead exposure.
