Champion Breweries completes Bullet brand acquisition, expands into 14 African markets
CHAMPION Breweries Plc has announced the successful completion of its acquisition of the Bullet brand portfolio from Sun Mark, marking a major step in the company’s expansion beyond Nigeria into a broader pan-African beverage platform.
In a notice to shareholders and the investing public on Monday, the Uyo-based brewer confirmed that the transaction, first announced on August 20, 2025, has now been finalised. The deal gives Champion Breweries Plc ownership of the Bullet brand assets, including trademarks, formulations and global commercial rights, through an asset carve-out structure.
The acquired assets are held in a newly incorporated entity in the Netherlands, in which Champion Breweries maintains a majority stake, while Vinar N.V., the majority shareholder of Sun Mark, retains a minority interest.
The Bullet portfolio is currently distributed across 14 African markets, positioning the company to scale rapidly in the high-growth ready-to-drink (RTD) alcoholic beverages and energy drink segments. Bullet Black is described as Nigeria’s leading RTD alcoholic beverage, while Bullet Blue has established a strong presence in the energy drink category across several African countries.
Strategic expansion beyond Nigeria
The acquisition represents a significant shift for Champion Breweries as it transitions from a regional brewing business to a diversified, multi-category consumer beverage company with continental reach.

According to the company, the deal broadens its addressable market and strengthens its revenue base by adding an established and profitable portfolio with strong brand recognition and consumer loyalty in multiple jurisdictions.
Champion Breweries said the transaction delivers several strategic benefits, including enhanced foreign exchange earnings, expanded distribution capabilities across African markets, improved supply chain integration, and portfolio diversification into high-growth beverage categories.
The structure of the deal allows for rapid integration without substantial upfront manufacturing capital expenditure, while creating a pathway for future production capacity in Nigeria. The company noted that this could potentially position Nigeria as a regional export hub for the brand.
Backed by capital raise
The acquisition was supported by the company’s recent capital-raising efforts, including a rights Issue and public offer, which strengthened its balance sheet and provided funding for strategic growth initiatives.
In January 2026, Champion Breweries initiated a N42 billion public offer as part of its larger N58 billion capital-raising initiative aimed at acquiring the Bullet energy drink brand.
This public offer marked the second phase of Champion Breweries’ capital-raising strategy. In December 2025, the company launched a rights issue targeting existing shareholders to raise around N16 billion. Although the exact amount raised from that rights issue remained undisclosed, the combined proceeds from both initiatives were expected to reach roughly N58 billion.
Management described the completion of the equity raises and the formal close of the Bullet acquisition as a defining moment for the company, citing strong backing from both existing shareholders and new investors.
Champion Breweries expressed appreciation to regulators and stakeholders who facilitated the transaction, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigerian Exchange Group, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, and the Akwa Ibom State Government.
Rand Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited acted as co-ordinating financial adviser and lead issuing house on both the public offer and rights issue, while Banwo & Ighodalo served as lead legal advisers. Several other financial institutions participated as joint issuing houses and advisers on the equity transactions, with Access Bank Plc acting as banker to the Public Offer.
