AEDC schedules six-hour power cut in parts of Abuja amid area council election
THE Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has notified customers in several Abuja neighbourhoods of an impending electricity outage.
In a notice released on Friday, the DisCo said electricity supply will be temporarily disrupted in parts of Gwarinpa, Dawaki, News Engineering, France Engineering, Charley Boy and nearby areas.
The planned interruption, according to the statement, is to enable the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) conduct routine maintenance on the 60MVA Transformer TR1 located at the Katampe Transmission Substation. The exercise is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
AEDC explained that the maintenance is part of measures aimed at strengthening the power network and ensuring more stable electricity supply to customers within the affected districts.
The company expressed regret over the inconvenience the temporary outage may cause and appealed to residents and businesses in the impacted communities to bear with the situation while the work is being completed.
Meanwhile, the area council polls in the FCT have been scheduled for Saturday, February 21, and voting will take place within the time the AEDC said the TCN would be conducting routine maintenance.
