United Nigeria pulls aircraft from service after latest bird strike

UNITED Nigeria Airlines has taken one of its CRJ-900 aircraft out of operation following a bird strike incident that occurred during the landing of Flight UN0579. The flight was en route from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the airline’s Public Relations Office, the affected flight had been scheduled to depart at 18:15 on Tuesday.

Following the incident, United Nigeria confirmed that the aircraft has been grounded to allow for a detailed technical assessment and any necessary repairs, in line with its safety protocols.

The carrier also warned that the development could disrupt some scheduled flights across its network, while emphasising that passenger safety remains its top priority.

United Nigeria Airlines expressed regret over any inconvenience caused, noting that the disruption was beyond its control and might affect travel plans.

The airline further disclosed that this marks the 5th bird strike involving its fleet since January 2026, adding that all such incidents have been handled in accordance with aviation safety standards and operational guidelines.

Reassuring passengers, the company reiterated its commitment to safety and operational efficiency, stating that it will continue to implement measures aimed at improving service delivery and meeting customer expectations.
